ISLAMABAD, Oct 10: Justice Mohammad Azim Khan Afridi of Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday allowed the district and sessions court to take up bail application of Mehra Jaffer masjid cleric on Thursday.

Earlier, Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman on September 28 while hearing the petition seeking quashment of FIR registered against minor Christian girl restrained the trial court from proceeding in the blasphemy case.

The cleric moved the IHC seeking clarification of the retraining order for the trial court.

The court observed that order of the Islamabad High Court had restrained the trial court from proceeding in the blasphemy case but did not stop it from deciding the bail application of the accused.

The district and sessions judge (DSJ) “west” Islamabad on October 3 stopped proceedings on the bail petition of Imam Khalid Jadoon and directed his counsel to seek clarification of Islamabad High Court (IHC) order.

Syed Wajid Gillani, the counsel for Imam Jadoon, adopted before the court that his client had been detained on false charges and the prosecution witnesses had submitted their affidavits for his innocence.
