KARACHI, Sept 13: The national seniors and juniors’ tennis championship commenced at the Karachi Gymkhana synthetic courts on Thursday with qualifying round matches of juniors and under-14 singles.

The event, which is being organised by Pakistan Seniors Tennis Association (PSTA), is being held in eight categories, four juniors and as many seniors. It includes juniors’ boys’ under-18 singles and doubles, girls’ under-18 singles and boys’ under-14 singles. The seniors’ events comprised three singles, 45 singles and doubles and 55 singles.

Under-14 singles:

Qualifying round one: Amin Shafi bt Rayan Jawad 6-1, 2-6, 6-1; Amir Hamza bt Sohail Meher 6-0, 6-0; Ebad Sarwar bt Noor-e-Mustafa 6-0, 6-0; Waqas Bhutto bt Masood Kabro (walkover).

Juniors’ under-18 singles:

Qualifying round: Saifullah Shoaib bt Saad Ahmed 6-0, 6-3; Amir Hamza bt Komail Ibn-e-Hashim 6-0, 6-0.—Sports Correspondent
