KARACHI, Aug 27: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has directed the commissioner of Karachi to devise a strategy in consultation with prominent religious scholars to immediately mobilise the Ulema council.

The Sindh governor said this while chairing a meeting of prominent religious scholars belonging to different schools of thought at the Governor’s House on Monday.

Speaking at the meeting, the governor urged the religious scholars to mobilise the Ulema council which had been constituted by the governor.

The religious scholars agreed to the governor’s proposal and said that extremism and terrorism were against the teachings of Islam.

The participants in the meeting also agreed that elements involved in terrorism or extremism were not well-wishers of Islam, Muslims and Pakistan.

They agreed to make concerted efforts for further promotion of interfaith harmony in the country.

The religious scholars also vowed to condemn terrorism in its all forms and manifestations and said that they would raise their voice against it at all forums.

Prominent religious scholars, including Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman, Mufti Mohammed Naeem, Allama Abbas Kumeli, Hafiz Mohammed Sulfi, Mufti Majid, Maulana Azizur-Rehman, Mufti Junaid, Maulana Abdul Kareem Abid, Shahid Ghauri, Yaqoob Attari, Haji Mohammed Hanif Tayyab, Maulana Ahmed Hassan, Allama Furqan Haider Abidi, Shabbar Raza, Allama Shabbir-ul-Hassan Tahiri, Siddiqi Rathore, Maulana Asad Thanvi and Maulana Tanveer-ul-Haq Thanvi, attended the meeting.

DG of Rangers Major General Rizwanullah, home affairs secretary Rizwan Memon, Sindh Police IG Fayyaz Leghari, Karachi commissioner Roshan Ali Sheikh and other officials also attended the meeting.

The religious scholars also congratulated the Sindh governor on his receiving a highest civil award from the president of Pakistan and also appreciated his efforts for the release of the crew of a merchant navy vessel from the captivity of Somali pirates.—APP
