LAHORE, Aug 24: An alleged kidnapper-cum-murderer was killed in an encounter with the CIA police in Jallo locality of Batapur on Friday.

Police said 45-year-old Muhammad Ashfaq kidnapped cloth trader Waqar Shabbir of Mughalpura with the help of his accomplice Azam for ransom a few days ago. Later, he killed Ashfaq and dumped his body in a canal in Nankana district.

Ghaziabad CIA police said a team went to arrest Ashfaq on the pointation of his arrested accomplice Azam and he opened fire at the police. He was killed in the crossfire. Police sent his body for an autopsy and registered a case.

Police said Nankana police had been approached for the recovery of Ashfaq’s body.

Azam told the police that he and Ashfaq planned to kidnap his friend’s brother Shabbir. He took Shabbir to his house in Nankana, where he and Ashfaq drugged him and contacted his family for ransom.

The family agreed to pay the ransom, but Azam had the suspicion that Ashfaq’s family had identified him. He strangled Shabbir, slit his throat and threw his body in a canal.

SHOT DEAD: Two unidentified motorcyclists shot and killed a 13-year-old boy and injured a rickshaw driver during an argument near Auto Market, Masti Gate on Friday afternoon.

Masti Gate SHO Mazhar Iqbal said Muhammad Asad was killed and Sabir, both residents of Kot Khwaja Saeed, suffered a leg injury. He said preliminary inquiries showed that Sabir picked his neighbour Asad, son of Shafique and a class-seven student, along with other passengers and reached Masti Gate.

As Sabir was driving his rickshaw, rainwater splashed on two motorcyclists and they started quarreling with Sabir. After an exchange of words, one of the motorcyclists fired a shot at rickshaw’s tyre and deflated it.

Then he shot Sabir injured. In the meantime, Asad got panicked and fell to the ground and a bullet fired by the motorcyclist hit his head.

The motorcyclists fled and the injured were transported to Mayo Hospital. Asad was referred to Lahore General Hospital, where he succumbed to his wound.

The SHO said a case had been registered against unidentified assailants on the complaint of Asad’s father.

ACCIDENT: Two people were killed and five injured when two motorcycles collided with each other at Aamir Road Stop near Bund Road early on Friday.

Rescue 1122 ambulance service pronounced two people dead on the spot and shifted five others to Kot Khawaja Saeed Hospital.

Names of the dead and their ages could not be ascertained, while the injured were identified as Nadeem, Bilal, Usman, Javed and Ms Talat.

SUICIDE ATTEMPT: Rescue 1122 rescued a 55-year-old woman who jumped into the River Ravi from Old Ravi Bridge to end her life on Friday.

A Rescue 1122 official said Shakila was rescued by divers who were present at the nearby post and was shifted to Mayo Hospital.

FIRE: A fire broke out in a house in A-Block of Defence Housing Authority on Friday, burning down valuables worth thousands. Rescue 1122 brought the blaze under control.

TRANSFER: Punjab Police Inspector General Habibur Rehman has transferred and posted two senior police officers.

According to a notification issued on Friday, Punjab Investigation Branch SSP Akhtar Umer Hayat Lalyka has been transferred and posted Jhang District Police Officer vice SSP Abdul Karim Rao who has been transferred and directed to report to the Punjab Police Headquarters.
