KARACHI, July 22: Police claimed to have arrested nine suspects for their alleged involvement in the Saturday clash in Sohrab Goth that claimed four lives.

Two groups clashed with each other over a monetary dispute in the Sohrab Goth area near Al-Asif Square and exchanged heavy gunfire in which four people were killed and five others wounded.

DIG-East Shahid Hayat told Dawn that two suspects — Asfandyar Khan and Khayal Zaman — were arrested on the spot soon after the firing started on Saturday.

Five other suspects were arrested during raids carried out by the police in Janaat Town, where two police officers, including the Sohrab Goth SHO, were wounded in the firing.

They were identified as Ziarat Gul, Shah Khalid, Babar Khan, Hasan Gul and Rehmatullah, he added.

The police also carried out raids on early Sunday morning and arrested two more suspects — Abdul Qadir and Tariq — and seized an AK-47 assault rifle, a repeater gun and seven pistols, the DIG added.
