ISLAMABAD, June 27: MNA Makhdoom Shahabuddin, who was the prime candidate for prime minister’s post, on Wednesday approached the Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi Bench for his pre-arrest bail till final adjudication in ephedrine case.

Shahabuddin had obtained protective transitory bail from the Peshawar High Court on June 22 which would expire on Thursday.

He filed his pre-arrest bail application on Wednesday through his counsel Shah Khawar advocate which would be on Thursday. He may be arrested by anti narcotics force if the LHC bench does not grant him interim bail.

The petitioner alleged that he had been implicated in the ephedrine case to prevent him from contesting the election of PM as he was nominated by majority party in the National Assembly.

He said the ANF had issued his arrest warrants in connivance with some unseen forces one day prior to the election of the PM.

Makhdoom Shahab adopted before the court that there was no incriminating material available against him which could prove his involvement in the matter.

He said he in fact ordered inquiry into the matter and undertook appropriate measures.

Makhdoom Shahab told the court that he had nothing to do with the allocation of quota and its quantity.

He alleged that the ANF prosecution was trying to pressurise some of the accused persons to become approver against him.

He told the court that all the charges were framed with a view to humiliating him and tarnishing his reputation.

Makhdoom Shahab prayed to the court to grant him pre-arrest bail till final adjudication in this case and an interim bail may also be granted to him till final disposal of the present petition.
