NAWABSHAH, Dec 13: Growers on Friday urged to government to bind the sugar mills owners to purchase sugarcane at Rs43 per 40kg as had been previously decided.

This was demanded by the Growers Associations of Nawabshah.

Meanwhile, the president of the Sindh Abadgar Board, Syed Zain Shah, the president of the Abadgar Welfare Association, Syed Abdullah Shah, and the president of the Sindh Small Growers Association Hakim Khaskheli, thanked the growers for not supplying sugarcane to the mills at lower rates.

Hakim Khaskheli, president Sindh Small growers Association, stressing on the need for government intervention and urged the government to solve the problem of the growers.

He said that sugarcane growers should be included in talks between the government and mill owners, adding that they would not accept any decision if they were not included in the talks.

It may be recalled that the Habib Sugar Mills, Nawabshah, had offered Rs36 per 40kg to the growers, which was less than the price fixed by the government.

Growers had also rejected the demand of Pakistan Sugar Mills Association’s Sindh chapter for fixing sugarcane price at Rs40 per 40kg at par with the prices being offered in Punjab.

ASIF ZARDARI: Asif Ali Zardari was taken back to Karachi amid tight security from the Zardari House Nawabshah on Friday.

Zardari was brought here on Wednesday to attend his mother’s Chehlum on Thursday on parole.

Asif Ali Zardari was driven away to Karachi after he offered Fateha at his mother’s grave at the Balo-Jo-Kubho graveyard.

On Thursday a large number of politicians, workers and elected members of the PPP attended the Chehlum of the mother of Asif Ali Zardari, Begum Bilquees Zardari, at the Zardari House.

Prominent among those who attended the Chehlum, were Federal Minister Sardar Yar Muhammad Rind, MNA Syed Zafar Ali Shah and others.
