SUKKUR, Dec 11: A sensitive agency discovered foul play in the recovery of arms and ammunitions, which had been reported from Ubaro by the excise inspector, Shabbir Kilo, on Nov 27.
The inspector had recovered six Kalashnikovs, 12 TT pistols, 10 grenades, and 30 kg of Charas from an abandoned house. All recovered items had later been deposited in the storeroom of the Ubaro police.
The agency in its letter to the Sindh government, AD/2623/02 dated 30-11-2002, had informed that in fact three terrorists had been arrested in the raid from whom Rs5 million and $400,000 had also been recovered. However, a deal was struck with the terrorists as a result of which they were set free and only arms and ammunitions and Charas were declared to have been recovered. The entire local and foreign currency was pilfered.
According to sources, the arms and Charas were shown to have been recovered from an abandoned house three days after releasing the terrorists.
So the Sindh government sent an investigation team, consisting of the director, Excise, Javed Memon, and the EDO, Revenue, Sukkur, Mohammad Hussain Syed, which interrogated the excise inspector of Ubaro. Besides, they also inspected the abandoned house. They then submitted a report to the Sindh government.
SCHOLARSHIPS: An amount of Rs1,950,000 was distributed among 130 students who secured A-I and A grades in SSC and HSC examinations of 2001.
The money, granted by the Sindh education department, was given to the students at a ceremony, organized by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), Sukkur.
The students who passed their examinations in A-I grade at first attempt were given Rs15,000 each.
Speaking on the occasion, Sukkur BISE chairman Ali Shah Bukhari said the board was extending financial support to students every year.
He said the board gave 26 merit scholarships, at the rate of Rs200, 56 scholarships, at the rate of Rs200, to children of school and college teachers on the basis of results of SSC examinations and 10 scholarships per month under the president’s talent scholarship scheme on the basis of competitive examinations.
The chairman of the BISE, Larkana, Ali Nawaz Palejo, was the chief guest on the occasion.
