KOHAT, May 11: The abduction and release of two women belonging to Mishti tribe of Orakzai Agency allegedly by Marai tribe of Kohat has created tension between the two tribes.

Officials told Dawn on Friday that two women and body of a kidnapped man had been handed over to the authorities following a decision of jirga between Mishti tribe of Orakzai Agency and elders of Kohat.

The alleged kidnappers handed over the body of abducted man, Jalal Hussain, claiming he had died due to lightning in the mountainous area. The victims belonging to Mishti tribe were kidnapped from Marai Payan area of Kohat district allegedly by militants.

The political administration held a jirga with elders of Mishti tribe who pardoned the kidnappers for the death of the kidnapped man, but demanded surrender of kidnappers.

The jirga held on Wednesday last was attended by elders from Mishti tribe and residents of Marai Payan in the presence of political officials in Hangu.

The Mishti tribe claimed at the jirga that in fact commander Ziaur Rehman alias Zewar Mullah of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan was kidnapping people from both sides for ransom, but the people of Marai abducted Mishti tribesmen after kidnapping of their people by the TTP.

They said that the actual dispute of Shia Marai tribe was with the TTP.

The elders of Sunni Mishti tribe recalled that earlier four men were kidnapped from Marai by the TTP who demanded Rs20 million for their release, but they suspected Mishti tribe of masterminding kidnapping of Marai tribesmen.

They made it clear at the jirga that the kidnapping issue of women was still unresolved. They also asked the political administration to confirm the cause of death of Jalal Hussain who according to Marai tribe was killed by lightning. The authorities had ordered inquiry into the death of Mr Hussain to resolve the whole issue.
