PESHAWAR: A blast took place on Islamabad-Peshawar GT road near an Edhi centre office in Peshawar's Chughalpura area on Friday injuring one person and damaging two vehicles, DawnNews reported.

According to police sources, DSP Banaras Khan was the target of the attack who remained unhurt whereas the car he was traveling in, was partially damaged.

The home-made bomb, constructed using 2-3 kilograms of explosive material, was planted under a manhole cover on the road which detonated as soon as the DSP's car passed by it, police sources added.

The blast site is near a bus stand which is frequently packed with commuters but no one was seriously injured in the attack.

Fear and panic gripped the area after the blast and emergency response teams reached the spot immediately.

Police cordoned off the areas as investigations began into the blast.
