KARACHI, May 3: An anti-terrorism court provided copies of documentary evidence on Thursday to three suspects in a police officer’s murder case.

Ishtiaq alias Policewala, Syed Zakir Hussain alias Agha Adeel and Syed Shakir Shah along with their absconding accomplices have been booked for allegedly killing SHO of the Brigade police station inspector Nasir-ul-Hasan along with his guard in an ambush in Lines Area on July 2, 2010.

The copies of the FIR, charge-sheet, memos, statements of prosecution witnesses recorded by the investigating officer and other documents were provided to the suspects under Section 265-C (supply of statements and documents to the accused) of the criminal procedure code (CrPC).

Thereafter, the judge, Khalida Yasin, of the ATC-II, who is conducting the trial, adjourned the hearing till May 19 for the indictment of suspects.

A case (FIR No.308/2010) was registered under Section 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 against Shabbir alias Dhobi, Taqi Butt alias Mamu, Nadeem, Asif alias Chitta and their eight to 10 accomplices.

The detained suspects were apprehended three to four months after the incident.

Suspects remanded

A judicial magistrate remanded on Thursday two suspected assassins in encounter and illicit weapons cases till May 5.

The special investigation unit of the police claimed to have apprehended Syed Mohammad Asim alias Kala and Shahzad on Wednesday in Shershah after a shoot-out and claimed that the suspects admitted their involvement in a number of cases of targeted killings.

The suspects were produced before the court of a judicial magistrate (west) who handed them over to SIU on two-day physical remand.

Three cases (FIR Nos. 229/12, 230/12 and 231/12) were registered under Sections 353 (criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 324 (attempted murder) and 34 of the PPC at the SIU police station.
