LAHORE, April 27: Punjab law minister Rana Sanaullah has said no convicted person can hold public office and added that Yousuf Raza Gilani has no legal or moral authority to continue as prime minister. He said President Zardari’s billions of rupees in Swiss banks should be brought back to serve Pakistani people.

He was speaking at the third anniversary of Lahore College for Women University mass communication department’s FM96.6 radio on varsity campus on Friday. Sanaullah said the government had destroyed economic health of the country.

He said the PML-N would soon be holding its meeting to formulate its future strategy. He said the PML-N was following democratic norms and it would ensure independent and transparent elections.

Sanaullah stressed that women must play their part in the development of the country. He lauded the LCWU for grooming young women to face the challenges of the modern world.

Stating that journalism acted as the fourth pillar of state, he said, this institution needed to be strengthened so that it could educate and guide the general public. He said media students should observe objectivity and maintain trust and credibility to achieve success in their professional lives. Referring to the ‘breaking news syndrome’, he advised students to go for responsible reporting.

The law minister assured the varsity administration of financial support to establish training booths at varsity’s Campus Radio.

LCWU Vice-Chancellor Dr Sabiha Mansoor said graduates should contribute to economic development of the country and struggle for academic excellence.

Superior University mass communication dean Dr Mughees-ud-Din Sheikh said visionary leadership of Dr Anjum Zia and support of administration made it possible for the university to shine in the world of campus broadcast.

LCWU mass communication department head Dr Anjum Zia presented a brief report about the FM Radio 96.6. She said the sole purpose of Radio Station FM 96.6 was to sensitise students as well as the general public on issues of vital importance such as child labour and women empowerment and help them get hands-on experience with the latest technology.

The law minister and varsity VC cut the cake to open 3rd anniversary celebrations of Voice of LCWU, FM 96.6.

In connection with the third anniversary celebrations, a poster competition was also organised by the mass communication department. Iqra Tehleel, Amna Yasin and Hafsa Junaid were awarded first, second and third prizes, respectively. Eminent young RJs, radio performers and presenters were awarded certificates of appreciation.
