KARACHI, April 27: A 13- year-old girl was killed over refusal of a marriage proposal in Korangi here on Friday.

The incident took place at Sector 36-E, where Nazakat Ali, 35, alias Kallu sent a proposal for marriage for 13-year-old Naureen, a student of class seven, residing in the same locality, a couple of days ago.

The family of the deceased girl declined the proposal, police said while quoting the family.

Nasir Colony check post in charge ASI Basheer Chandio said that Kallu had proposed around 15 days ago and on refusal from the girl’s father, he started hurling threats at them.

He said that Naureen didn’t go to school on Friday and at the time of the incident she was going out to buy some stuff from the market near her home when Kallu caught hold of her on the street in the presence of dozens of stunned onlookers and slit her throat with a dagger.

He then fled from the scene but a police mobile chased and caught the suspect after reaching the scene and learning about the incident from the people gathered there.

Police said Kallu was a garment factory worker. The victim, Naureen, was the eldest among her four siblings. Her father is a painter by profession.

A case against Nazakat on the complaint of the victim’s father has been registered at the Korangi Industrial Area police station.

Police have shifted the victim’s body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for legal formalities.
