KARACHI, April 22: The Pakistan Naval Engineering College (PNEC), Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science & Technology (SZABIST), Institute of Business Management (IoBM), PAF-Karachi Institute of Engineering & Technology (PAF-KIET), Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Hamdard University (HU), Ziauddin University (ZU) and Aga Khan University (AKU) qualified for the quarter-finals of the 10th AKU Inter-university Football Tournament at the AKU Football Ground here on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the last of the league matches saw HU and IoBM winning as Iqra University (IU) and PNEC and IBA and SZABIST played draws.

HU beat Dawood College of Engineering and Technology (DCET) 5-1. The goals for the winners were scored by Shahzad Afzal (12th and 25th mins), Nadir Ali (seventh min), Naik Mohammad (14th min) and Mohammad Imran (18th min) while Aizaz Khan (39th min) reduced the margin for the losing side.

IoBM beat ZU 4-1 with Shehryar Khanzada (30th and 60th mins), Hamza Shahid (38th min) and Zain Khan (57th min) scoring for them as Asad Sheikh (15th min) scored the lone goal for ZU.

IU and PNEC played a 1-1 draw. Ahmed Raza (32nd min) scored for IU and Sohail Khan (59th min) for PNEC.

IBA and SZABIST also played a 1-1 draw. SZABIST scored through Paras Musavi (seventh min) and IBA equalised through Rizwan Ahmed (21st min).

The matches were supervised by referees Mohammad Arsalan, Ansar Javed, Noor ul Haq, Abdul Aziz and Hameed-ur-Rehman with Sajjad Akbar as the official scorer and Munawar Khan the match commissioner.

The quarter-finals will be played on Monday 12.00pm and 5.30pm.
