LAHORE, Dec 8: Pakistan Muslim League-Q president Mian Mohammad Azhar, central leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Punjab party president Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi decided here on Sunday to resolve all party matters according to party constitution and maintain discipline at all cost.

The party advice would be given importance even in government matters and it would be taken into confidence while formulating government policies, they decided. Shujaat and Pervaiz held an hour-long meeting at Azhar’s residence and discussed with him party matters as well as government’s performance.

Both sides issued separate press releases about the meeting but neither said what decision had been taken on the status of Salim Saifullah Khan as party secretary-general.

Prime minister Zafarullah Jamali, after stepping down as party secretary-general, nominated Saifullah as his successor, a decision immediately rejected by Azhar as unconstitutional.

Azhar also does not approve of the induction of the PPP forward bloc members in the cabinet.

The Chaudhris assured Azhar of their full cooperation in matters concerning discipline and organization of the party.

The PML-Q president said the political parties and the system were weakened in the past because after coming to power the parties forgot their commitments with the electorate.

Shujaat said he had always upheld the party interests. He said even at this juncture a strong PML could guarantee a strong government.
