‘Outlaw’ killed in encounter

PESHAWAR, April 15: An alleged outlaw was killed in a police encounter while one of his accomplices was arrested here on Sunday.

The Nasir Bagh police were informed that some armed persons had been seen in the fields in Mian Khan Garhi. When the police reached there the armed persons opened fire. Police also retaliated, killing one of the outlaws, identified as Sajad Gul. Another person Nihayat was arrested while Faiz Rehman escaped from the area, police said.—Bureau Report

College looted

NOWSHERA, April 15: Robbers got away with 20 computers, transformer and other valuable items from Government Degree College Naizam Pur on Saturday night.

Police said the robbers tied the college watchman before going on a looting spree.

They said five unidentified armed burglars entered the college at 11pm on Saturday and decamped with 20 computers, a transformer, a refrigerator, fans, an air-conditioner and other valuable items of the college.

The police said the robbers tied the watchman, Shamshad Gul, and tortured him, adding, the burglars left the college at 4am. Naizam Pur police registered case and started investigation.—Correspondent   

Biker dies on road

KARAK, April 15: A motorcyclist was killed and three others were seriously injured in separate road accidents here on Sunday.

Police said Alam Shah, resident of Kohat, was going from Shakardara to Kohat on his motorcycle when a car hit the bike at Karappa area. He died on the spot. The car driver ran away after the incident.

The police identified him through his documents and his body was sent to Kohat. Banda Daud Shah police station registered a case and started investigation.

In the other incident, three persons were seriously injured when a pick-up van fell into a deep ravine in Palosa Sar area. The injured were taken to a local hospital in critical condition. They were identified as Yasir, Mustafa and Wali Marjan.—Correspondent

Tributes to trapped soldiers

SWAT, April 15: National Peace Award holder, Malala Yusufzai, on Sunday paid rich tributes to the Pakistani troops trapped under an avalanche at Giari sector of Siachen. She held their invaluable sacrifices for defence of the motherland in high esteem.

Expressing her heartfelt condolences with the members of the bereaved families, she said the trapped troops were ‘our heroes’ and the whole nation was praying for their safe recovery. She was addressing a press conference at the Swat Press Club.

On this occasion, she also staged a candlelight tribute to the brave missing soldiers.

Meanwhile, a Wapda lineman was electrocuted while repairing a transformer at Khwaza Khela on Sunday.

According to police, Abdul Hanan was repairing a transformer to remove a fault at Gul Dheri village when he was electrocuted.

As a result he died on the spot. He was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard.—APP

Master plan for Nowshera

PESHAWAR, April 15: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has prepared a master plan for development of Nowshera district with special focus on uplift of communication, education and health infrastructure.

Awami National Party, Nowshera district vice-president and member of the reconciliatory committee of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Malik Juma Khan, told a press conference in Nowshera on Sunday that under the master plan millions of rupees would be spent on construction of educational institutes, health units and provision of gas and electricity. The schools destroyed by militants would also be reconstructed, he added.

The government has allocated Rs170million for constructing second commerce college in the district and has fulfilled yet another demand of people by providing gas to several villages, including Mohib Banda, Aman Kot, Dheri Mian Ishaq, Babi Jadeed, said Mr Juma Khan.

Juma Khan said the ANP was united under the leadership of central president Asfandyar Wali Khan and problems of masses were being addressed.—APP
