ISLAMABAD, March 24: Following the escape of four Afghan nationals from lock-up, six officials of Kural police station were suspended and arrested for their alleged involvement in the incident.

Moreover, entire staff except additional SHO was transferred from the police station.

Sources said suspension and transfer orders were issued from the office of Inspector General of Police (IGP), Islamabad.

According to the orders, six officials present in the police station including two ASIs, a head constable and three constables, (investigation officer, duty officer, night moharar and guards posted at lockup and main gates), were suspended and arrested for facilitating the Afghans who were facing charges of car-lifting, in their escape from the lockup.

Besides, SHO Sajad Shah Bukhari was also removed from the post and transferred to Rescue-15.

The sources said over 100 police officials including two inspectors, four sub-inspectors, 15 assistant sub-inspectors and 60 constables and head constables were transferred from the police station.

Meanwhile, Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) was assigned to investigate the incident and it took six policemen in custody for the purpose.

The sources said three policemen were responsible for the escape – one deployed at the lock-up and two at the gates of police station – while preliminary interrogation revealed that all the three policemen were absent from their duty points at the time of the escape.

It is believed that the Afghans escaped from the lock-up through the window.
