KARACHI, March 20: A suspected robber was killed during a shoot-out with police near the KMC graveyard in Baldia Town on Tuesday, police said.

They said that two robbers on a motorcycle were looting passers-by near the KMC graveyard within the remit of the Saeedabad police station when a police patrol reached the scene.

Sensing danger, the robbers opened fire on the police and tried to escape. However, the police returned fire killing one of them on the spot, while the second managed to escape.

The police claimed to have recovered a stolen motorcycle and a TT pistol from his possession.

Saeedabad SHO Raja Tanveer said that the deceased was identified as Zahid Ali, 24, a resident of Ittehad Town in Baldia.

The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.

The area SHO said that he was booked in several cases of motorcycle snatching in Saeedabad police station in 2011.

Till late in the night, no case was registered in connection with the 'encounter'.
