KARACHI, March 9: Seven people, including an assistant sub-inspector and a police informer, were killed on Friday in acts of violence in different parts of the city, police and witnesses said.

They said that a 32-year-old man, Naseeruddin, was shot dead by two motorcyclists in front of his home in Orangi Town within the remit of the Mominabad police.

The sources said that the victim was a former worker of a proscribed organisation and he was sitting outside his home when attacked. He died instantly and his body was moved to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

The Mominabad police said that no case was registered till late as they were still busy with medico-legal formalities.

They said that the victim was a dispenser at a KMC hospital.

A young man was shot dead in Orangi Town over some monetary dispute, police said.

The Orangi Town police said that the victim, Fahim son of Yasin, was killed allegedly by the man over a monetary dispute.

However, the suspect was not arrested so far, they said.

An ASI was killed allegedly by robbers, who were looting an Edhi booth within the remit of the PIB police station.

The police said that the robbers opened fire on the police officer when he challenged them. He died instantly, they said.

An 18-year-old man was shot dead by two motorcyclists near his house at Sector 11-F within the remit of the New Karachi Industrial Area police station.

He was stated to be a worker of the Sunni Tehrik.

The police said that a 40-year-old man was shot dead by assailants near Pakistan Chowk within the remit of the Arambagh police station.

The victim was identified as Wali Muhammed Soomro, a resident of Baloch Goth, Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

A police informer and a juice vendor were killed on Friday when two attackers opened fire on the former at a shantytown near the Superhighway, police and eyewitnesses said.

The Sohrab Goth police claimed to have arrested the attackers, one of them recently released on bail, on a lead given by their informer.

The witnesses said that Muzammil Shah, 37, resident of Faqira Goth, was attacked by the assailants near his residence at around 10am when he was on his way.

They said that the motorcyclists, both wearing helmets, fired with pistols at the victim, who received multiple bullet wounds.

The witnesses said that a juice vendor, identified as Mohammed Aslam, 27, also received a single but fatal bullet wound to the chest, and died before he could be taken to hospital.

The police said that the fatally wounded police informer was immediately shifted to a nearby private hospital where he was also pronounced dead.

Later, the bodies were moved to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where medico-legal sources said that Muzammil received four bullets in his upper torso. Both the victims were residents of Faqira Goth and they belonged to Khyber Pukhtunkhwa.

Sohrab Goth SHO Inspector Abdul Ghaffar Jumani told Dawn that the two attackers were arrested in the nearby Jamali Goth on a lead given by a police informer.

He said that the two TT pistols used in the double murder were also seized from the suspects, who were identified as Imran and Muhammed Khan.

Police sources said that Muzammil was an informer of the police and other law-enforcement agencies and he was instrumental in the arrest of Imran seven months ago.

They said that Imran was released on bail from jail a few days ago and he had also threatened the victim.

Meanwhile, the police registered a case (FIR 208/2012) against the two suspects on a complaint of the police informer’s wife, Meena Gul.
