PESHAWAR, March 7: The Peshawar High Court on Wednesday summoned the capital city police chief and a station house officer (SHO) over an alleged fake encounter that led to a detainee’s killing of late.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Dost Mohammad Khan and Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth later fixed the next hearing into the case to March 22 directing the SHO of Mathra police station to produce all record of the said encounter and the daily diary reports of the police station.

Meraj Bibi had moved the court against the killing of her son, Rahat Hussain, during the alleged fake encounter.

She said her son served as a watchman in Lahore’s Mustafa Town and was arrested on homecoming by Mathra police on February 15 in a fabricated criminal case.

Her lawyer, Essa Khan, said he filed the petition with the court against Mr Hussain’s detention on February 18 and that preliminary hearing into it was held on February 22.

He said police later killed the detainee between the night of February 22 and 23 claiming the killing occurred during an encounter.

Police claimed that some anti-social elements had fired at a police patrol and exchange of fire led to the killing of Mr Hussain and another outlaw.—Bureau Report
