KARACHI, March 6: Police on Tuesday claimed to have foiled a bank robbery within the remit of the Nazimabad police station.

Police said three gunmen went into a private bank branch at Nazimabad 3 at closing time and took away a bag containing Rs1.5 million.

A duty officer of the North Nazimabad police station said that someone informed the police helpline about the robbery and a police party rushed and chased the bandits riding two motorbikes.

Police said an exchange of fire took place near the Shamim Shaheed police post. One of the bandits sustained a gunshot wound, escaped with his accomplice, but left behind the loot and motorbike.

Sindh IG Mushtaq Shah announced rewards for the police party that foiled the robbery.

The police claimed that one of the bandits was wounded during the encounter. They informed all police stations and hospitals to look out for the wounded suspect, who might turn up at a hospital for treatment.
