LAHORE, March 4: Locals and the Sandah police arrested two alleged robbers, one of them in injured condition after a brief shootout, as they fled after snatching cash and a cell phone from a citizen near Bund Road on Sunday.

Iqbal Town Operations SP Abdul Ghaffar Qaisarani told Dawn that three robbers stopped Ashfaq and snatched from him Rs25,000 in cash and a cell phone at gunpoint.

One of the suspects was captured by locals in a chase, the second one fled while the third one who was equipped with a gun entered a nearby house, the SP said.

He said the police rushed to the spot in response to an emergency call, cordoned off Arshad’s house where the suspect was hiding and told him to surrender. But, the suspect opened fire on the police and tried to flee. However, some bullets fired by the police left him injured.

The SP said the suspect captured by locals was identified as Arif while the one injured in the shootout was identified as Akram and he was admitted to a local hospital with two bullet wounds to his leg.

He said the police also seized two pistols and looted cash and two cell phones from their possession.

ROBBERIES: Four robbers stormed Muhammad Liaqat’s house in Ganj Bakhsh Park in Nawankot police precincts, took his two-year-old son Ahmad hostage at gunpoint and looted cash and valuables worth Rs3.7 million.

In another case, two robbers stopped Afzal in Kot Lakhpat police precincts and deprived him of Rs6,000 in cash, cell phone and a motorcycle while as many robbers approached Umair in Johar Town police limits and deprived him of Rs34,000 and a cell phone.

Two robbers stopped Aamir and his family in Johar Town police limits and looted cash and valuables worth Rs400,000.

Two robbers intercepted Akhtar and his family in Hunajrwal police limits and deprived them of cash and valuables worth Rs300,000.
