GILGIT, Feb 12: The district administration on Sunday imposed section 144 and banned pillion-riding in Gilgit city following an attack on a JUI leader a few days back.

Official sources said police had been directed to ensure strict implementation of the order to avoid any untoward incident.

Police have set up check points at various places in the city where people and vehicles are being searched. Police are also routinely patrolling the streets and sensitive spots are being manned by contingents of police.

ASSURANCE: The Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Saifullah Chatta has assured the people of Diamer district that the land compensation would be paid to them with immediate effect.

He visited Diamer district and also went to Thore village where he inspected the land where some issues had surfaced.

Later, various delegations from the village called on him and demanded of him to make early payment of the land to be used in the construction of the Diamer-Bhasha Dam. The chief secretary said the payment of land compensation will be made as early as possible.

Another delegation of Hudur valley also visited him and demanded payment of the compensation.

The chief secretary assured the delegation that the payment of their land would be made as soon as the funds from Wapda were released.

The chief secretary assured a delegation from Chilas that killers of Abdul Wakil, who was murdered in Gilgit, would be brought to justice.

He announced compensation and employment to the heirs of the deceased person.
