CHARSADDA, Nov 30: The unannounced and unscheduled loadshedding in Charsadda during Ramazan has made the lives of the people miserable.

The residents of the city complained that the Wapda authority has started loadshedding in the district without any prior information.

The worst sufferers of this loadshedding are the shopkeepers, especially the tailors whose business is on the peak in these days as Eid-ul-fitre is approaching nearer.

The Mutthahida Shopkeepers Association staged a protest rally on Friday here at the main Farooq-i-Azam square of tehsil bazar against the unscheduled loadshedding.

Those who spoke on the occasion include Ihsanullah Surki, president of the association, Misal Khan, Shahji and Sadiqullah.

They criticized the authority for loadshedding and threatened direct action if the loadshedding was not ended immediately. The processionists who were chanting slogans against Wapda have also blocked the main Mardan-Charsadda road for some time, latter they dispersed peacefully.

CLARIFICATION: However, a Peshawar Electric Supply Company spokesman has clarified that no loadshedding was being done in any part of the province including Charsadda, Mardan, Dir, Chakdarra and Khal, says APP.

In a statement in Peshawar on Saturday, he further clarified that power supply was disconnected in Charsadda for maintenance work after duly informing the people and disconnection notices in the press.

He said, on the request of consumers and shopkeepers electricity was suspended before Juma congregation from 7am to 11am.

However, some mischievous elements started shouting against Wapda and tried to interfere in rehabilitation work.

The spokesman added that all maintenance work was being done to improve electricity suplly in the district.

He said, power supply was stopped for few hours to carry out rehabilitation work in the province and clarified there was no shortage of electricity, therefore, no loadshedding or load management was being done all over the frontier province.
