KARACHI, Jan 28: In what is being described as an ‘honour killing’, a woman and her teenage daughter were axed to death in their house in the Sohrab Goth area on Saturday, officials said. They said that two children of 35-year-old Ajmina Bibi found the bodies of their mother and 15-year-old sister, Rahila, lying in a pool of blood inside their house in Hussain Hangora Goth when they returned home after visiting an area shop. “The children started crying and drew the attention of some neighbours,” said DSP Nasir Lodhi, the area sub-divisional police officer (SDPO).

“The police were finally called in and the bodies were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Both victims sustained multiple hits on their heads and the police also found a blood-stained axe in the house that appears to have been used in the murder.”

When asked about police suspicions about the family guardian, he said that the two children told the police that their father, Shahzad Khan, returned home early from work and gave them some money to buy sweets from the area shop asking them to spend some time outside the house.

“The children left the house where their mother, father and elder sister were present. They returned home almost after half an hour and found the bodies of their mother and sister, but their father was missing,” he said, adding that the family originally hailed from Lower Dir in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

“The suspect worked as a scrap dealer. We have reason to believe that the double murder is actually a case of honour killing.

We have contacted the relatives and other people who were in contact with the family to determine the exact motive and trace the suspect,” added the area SDPO.
