TOKYO, Jan 25: Russian runner Tatyana Aryasova has been stripped of her 2011 Tokyo marathon title after testing positive for a banned substance, event organisers confirmed on Wednesday.
The International Association of Athletics Federations finalised a two-year doping ban on Aryasova after she did not challenge its ruling during an appeal period which ended last Friday, the Tokyo Marathon Foundation said.
The ban is retroactive to April 29 last year and the 32-year-old has been deprived of her Tokyo title as well as all her competition results since the race, the foundation said.
Aryasova, who won the 2008 Los Angeles marathon in her debut over the distance, tested positive for hydroxyethyl starch (HES) in a urine sample test immediately after she took the Tokyo prize in 2:27:29 on February 27.—AFP
