Trucker dies of cold

MUZAFFARABAD, Jan 13: A truck driver ferrying intra-Kashmir trade goods died at the Chakothi terminal on Friday, apparently due to severe cold, witnesses said.

The body of the driver, identified as Sadaqat Abbasi, was sent to his native village, Deval in Murree tehsil. — Staff Correspondent

Labourer buried alive

ISLAMABAD Jan 13: A labourer was killed in Sangjani area when mass of earth fell on him on Thursday.

Ilyas Khan, 41, a native of Kashmir, was working in a nullah in Sangjani along with other labourers when the mass of earth fell on him. As a result, he was buried alive. Ilyas was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Another labourer, Rashid Khan also suffered minor injures. — Staff Reporter

24 illegal immigrants arrive

RAWALPINDI, Jan 13: As many as 24 Pakistanis deported by Turkish authorities arrived at Benazir Bhutto International Airport on Friday on a Turkish Airline’s scheduled flight, the authorities said.

On arrival, all the illegal immigrants were taken into custody by the Federal Investigation Agency’s anti-human trafficking officials who, later, shifted them to Gujranwala as all of them belonged to the district.

Turkish authorities capture and deport hundreds of Pakistani illegal immigrants, mostly the young men who try to enter Greece and other European countries in search of jobs. The young men pay thousands of rupees to the travel agents for going to European countries.

After the arrests, these illegal immigrants are detained in camps in harsh conditions and later deported to Pakistan. — Staff Reporter

Thief escapes

ISLAMABAD, Jan 13: An alleged thief escaped from Ramna police station on Friday.Over the escape, a naib-moharar was suspended and a case was also registered against him.

The accused, Mohammad Amir, was arrested two days before for his alleged involvement in a theft case.

On Friday, he went to the washroom while the naib moharar stood guard outside. Meanwhile, a policeman fell on the floor as his blood pressure shot up.

The naib moharar and other cops rushed to attend him leaving the accused unguarded. Finding none watching him, the accused jumped over the wall of the police station and ran away. — Staff Reporter

HC CJ attack case

MUZAFFARABAD, Jan 13: The probe into the murderous attempt at AJK High Court Chief Justice Ghulam Mustafa Mughal would be completed within a week.

Responding to a point of order raised by opposition Muslim Conference lawmaker Mir Akbar Khan during the assembly session, AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed said on Friday the government had constituted two separate teams headed by competent police officials to probe the incident and Inspector General of Police (IGP) was personally supervising their working.

“I would request all to avoid casting aspersions on the performance of the investigation teams. The government is determined to bring to light the motives behind the attack,” he said.

Instead, he said, the people from all walks of life should extend all possible cooperation to the police teams so that they might accomplish their task at the earliest. — Staff Correspondent

RAWALPINDI, Jan 13: Municipal services department on Friday asked Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) to plug water leakages points and cover the manholes on the route of the procession to be held in connection with Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) Chelum in the city on Sunday (tomorrow).

EDO (Municipal Services) Imtiaz Ahmed Malik and District Officer Dr Mazhar Azeem visited the city areas and gave directions for improvement in civic facilities. — A Reporter

Green Week fair

ISLAMABAD, Jan 13: The Punjab government will present 20 fully traceable agricultural and livestock products at the ‘International Green Week’, the world’s biggest fair for food, agriculture and horticulture opening in Berlin on Jan 20.

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif will attend the green week fair; an official of provincial agricultural department said, adding that the event in Berlin would open doors of world markets providing tremendous business opportunities for Punjab.

The Punjab government launched Rs2 billion ‘Traceable Pakistan project’ to streamline and reinforce the province’s economic development efforts.  It has laid the foundation of an investment-friendly policy with emphasis on private-public sector. — Our Reporter
