KARACHI, Jan 10: An activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was shot dead and two others were wounded in a local market in the Drigh Road area on Tuesday, police said.

They said that two assailants riding a motorbike opened indiscriminate fire on three MQM workers — Ahmed, Nadir and Muhammad Imran — when they were standing at a vegetable shop in the Cantonment Bazaar, Drigh Road, at about 1pm.

The suspects fled afterwards.

The Sharea Faisal SHO said that all the three men sustained multiple bullet wounds and 30-year-old Ahmed died on the spot.

The other two wounded men — 24-year-old Nadir and 32-year-old Imran — were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, respectively, for treatment.

The condition of Imran was said to be critical.

He said that deceased Ahmed was a worker of Shah Faisal Colony’s Unit 109 while Nadir and Imran were workers of Unit 108 of the MQM’s organisational structure.

The police said that they found several spent bullet casings of a 9mm pistol at the crime-scene.

The three victims were residents of Shah Faisal Colony No 5.

Following the killing, tension gripped the entire Shah Faisal Colony, where shops and other commercial activities were shut.

Till late in the night, no FIR in connection with the incident was lodged at the Sharea Faisal police station.
