I CONGRATULATE the leader of the PTI, Imran Khan, for having another success by staging another rally in Karachi. He has proved himself to be a crowd-puller and people, especially the young, are nuts about him. I appreciate the promises he has made.

I appreciate his apology to the Balochistan province and I can well understand why are other prominent politicians joining his cause. For all the good he has promised I will pray that he may fulfil them.

He also promises that he will follow in the footsteps of the Quaid-i-Azam. Here I have a fear that he will not be able to do so. He vows to make Pakistan an Islamic welfare state. Like all the previous fanatical leaders, he too is bringing religion into politics and I fear that he will also contribute in making things go from bad to worse.

He must remember that while addressing the first constituent assembly on Aug 11, 1947, the Quaid made it very clear that religion will have nothing to do in the affairs of the state. So, if he vows to follow the Quaid, he must keep religion out of the affairs of the state.

Furthermore, it was Christmas. It looks as if he did not wish anyone Merry Christmas. Nor did he have anything to say about the non-Muslim Pakistanis. A non-Muslim like me will fear that he too will follow the other politicians who did a lot of damage to the country through the misuse of religion.
