ISLAMABAD, Dec 28: Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of the capital police was gunned down while a constable and a passerby sustained bullet injuries in an attack near Ramna police station, G-11 Markaz on Wednesday night. Apparently it was target killing incident as the ASI was under threat by criminals involved in illegal business of liquor, a senior police officer told Dawn.

ASI Zulfiqar Ahmed along with the constable, who was in uniform, came out of Ramna police station. As they moved towards double road, two motorcycle riders intercepted them. One of them pulled out a weapon and opened indiscriminate fire on the ASI who suffered four bullet injuries and died on the spot. The constable and a passerby received multiple gunshots.

Later, the attackers escaped towards the slum area adjacent to G-11/1 and G-11/2. Shortly after getting information of the incident, the police reached there and shifted the body and the injured to the hospital. A heavy contingent of police was also called out and the area was cordoned off to nab the attackers.
