UMERKOT, Dec 28: Five robbers a doctor of Rs4 million after holding the inmates of his house hostage on Wednesday.

Dr Jodho Mal Meghwar, medical officer at the District Headquarters Hospital, told Dawn the five robbers barged into his house at midnight and held members of his family hostage at gunpoint.

They robbed them of 52 tolas of gold jewellery and Rs2,75,000 cash. The doctor said he had no enmity with anyone.

Provincial Minister Syed Ali Mardan Shah visited the doctor and assured him that he would get justice. He regretted that the minority community was being targeted by robbers.

DSP Iqbal Mangrio and SHO Umerkot Sanam Laghari indicated that they had got and said assured the culprits would soon be arrested.
