Old man burnt alive

RAWALPINDI, Dec 22: A 75-year-old sick man was burnt alive after being trapped in fire erupted due to electric short circuit at his house on Thursday in Iqbal Town, Sadiqabad, fire services and police said.

The fire erupted after an electric wire connected to a heater placed in a room where victim, Mohammad Aslam, was sleeping started sparking. According to preliminary police investigation, the sparking caused fire that spread in the room giving no chance to the old sick man to save himself.

The wife of the victim, son and daughter-in-law rushed to rescue the old man but they found their sick father burnt alive on his bed.—Staff Reporter

Aasha wrapped up

ISLAMABAD, Dec 22: Eleventh Working Women Assembly of Alliance Against Sexual Harassment (Aasha) decided to conclude the platform since it had achieved all the goals and objectives set at the time of its launch ten years before.

Speakers at the assembly held here on Thursday vowed to continue struggle for the implementation of the anti-sexual harassment laws at their own level. Aasha was formed as a movement to struggle for introducing anti-sexual harassment legislation in the country.—Staff Reporter

Labourer dies

ISLAMABAD, Dec 22: A labourer was killed after he fell from a concrete-mixing machine at Nilore here on Thursday, police said. The victim was identified as Mohammad Afzal, 31, a resident of Kotli Satian. He was employed at Nilore where construction work was in progress. He climbed at the mixing machine from where he fell and suffered severe injures. .—Staff Reporter

Robbery attempts

ISLAMABAD, Dec 22: National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) foiled two robbery attempts at G T Road and arrested one of the dacoits and recovered illegal arms and ammunition from him.

The sources said their team was on their routine duty when they found two dacoits looting two trucks parked near Hino workshop on gunpoint.

They called their commando unit which carried out a commando action and succeeded in arresting a dacoit.In the second incident, their patrolling team saw about 12 persons were trying to stop vehicles on gunpoint on the G T Road .

When the dacoits saw the NHMP officers they resorted to firing. The motorway officers retaliated making the dacoits run away from the scene.—Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Dec 22: Unesco and Nokia, Pakistan launched mobile learning project on Thursday for teachers’ professional development.

Under the project, the cell company will provide mobile phones to the public school teachers in remote areas and train them on their application by using information and communication technology.—Staff Reporter
