BANNU, Dec 17: Unidentified militants blew up a primary school, a house and a tubewell in Mandeo area of the district here on the night between Friday and Saturday, official sources said.

The officials of Miryan police station said that militants had planted explosive devices at the building of government primary school, the house of Afsar Zaman and a tubewell. The explosive devices went off the night, they added.

The house and the school were badly damaged in the explosions, while the water tank of the tubewell was partially damaged. However, nobody was injured in the blats.

Police said that locally made explosive devices were used in the attack.

Meanwhile, armed persons freed a murder accused from the custody police at district headquarters hospital by force and took him away with them here on Saturday.

Sources said that police brought the accused, Ejaz, for medical examination to the hospital. As he got off the vehicle, few armed men opened indiscriminate firing and whisked away the accused, they added.

Police confirmed the incident but refused to comment on the security lapse. The residents of the area said that police officials manned the two entrances of the hospital but it was questionable how the armed men entered the hospital and took away the accused.

ROAD BLOCKED: The Ahmadzai Wazir tribesmen blocked the Indus Highway to traffic for nearly three hours to protest against prolonged loadshedding in their area in Domel.

The protesters burnt tyres on the road to block it to all kinds of vehicular traffic and chanted full throated slogans against Wapda.

The officials of Wapda and police rushed to the site and held negotiations with the protesters. They assured the protesters that the loadshedding in the area would be stopped in a week.

Later, the protesting tribesmen dispersed saying that they would again block the road if the issue was not resolved within a week.
