THE Abubakar Graveyard in Larkana is in a miserable codition, showing the apathy of the Auqaf Department and other relevant senior officials. Visitors to the graves of their loved ones face enormous problems like rough and congested paths, sewerage and drainage, and fear of drug addicts.

However, owing to the dilly-dallying by the DCO, the members of business community from Larkana’s Chamber of Commerce approached Faryal Talpur about the problem, but nothing positive was achieved.

Now through these columns I request the higher authorities concerned to put in place remedial measures in order to protect the graveyard.

First, free the graveyard from the stranglehold of drug addicts. Second, pathways and the drainage must be improved to facilitate visitors.

Third, there is an urgent need for installing lighting equipment.

Fourth, to overcome the problem of congestion, more space should be created by allotting fresh land for graveyards.

This can be ensured by removing illegal construction put on by the city land mafia.

These small measures will go a long way in providing a great relief to the people of this city.
