CHITRAL, Dec 4: The drivers and traders of Chitral have opposed shifting of bus stand outside the city and demanded of the government to take notice of the decision of district coordination officer as it will create problems for people.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, former MNA Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali, president of drivers union Mumtaz Ali Jan and others said that the stand of passenger coaches, presently established in Krup Risht, was located at a central place of the city and was easily accessible.

They said that the district administration ordered shifting of the stand to a remote place in Gahtak Denin that would multiply the problems of the passengers.

“The decision will hit hard patients, women and children as there is no public transport available to reach the city from the place,” they added. They said that the stand at Denin had been acquired by the tehsil municipal administration for parking of trucks before they were unloaded. “It is not feasible to use as passenger coaches stand,” they added.

They rejected the claim of administration that the present stand was creating traffic problem. They said that only a small fraction of the vast and spacious compound of the stand was in use while the area of the proposed stand was one-fifth of the present one.

They demanded of the chief minister to take notice of the decision of the district administration. “The decision has created unrest among the people and is likely to cause law and order situation in the area,” they added.
