KARACHI, Nov 29: A police official was shot dead in Orangi Town's Baloch Goth on Tuesday, police said.

They said that two armed men riding a motorbike opened fire on 42-year-old Sub-Inspector Aleem Shah when he was buying household stuff near Shahzad Cinema in Baloch Goth.

The officer suffered gunshot wounds and died before he could be shifted to hospital.

Later, the body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities. Orangi Town SHO Asif Rauf said that the victim was a resident of Baloch Goth and he was posted at the Pirabad police station.

Till late in the night, no FIR of the killing was registered.

Meanwhile, a trainee policeman was shot dead in a Lyari locality on Tuesday, police said.

They said that 23-year-old Babar Shaikh was going home when armed men shot him dead in the Nayaabad area within the remit of the Kalri police station and escaped.

The victim suffered a fatal bullet wound and died on the spot. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.

Kalri SHO Asif Munawar said that the victim was an active worker of the Pakistan People's Party.

Numaish killing

Police late Monday night registered an FIR in connection with the killing of two scouts at the Numaish intersection on Sunday. The FIR (309/2011) was registered under Sections 302 (premeditated murder), 324 (attempted murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 7 of the Anti-terrorism Act on behalf of the state against unidentified persons at the Soldier Bazaar police station.

Meanwhile, a man who was reportedly hit by a teargas shell at the Numaish intersection on Sunday died on Tuesday in a private hospital.

Family sources said Nayyar Zaidi, 55, was hit by a teargas shell and taken to a private hospital. His son, a volunteer of the Pak Hyderi Scouts, confirmed the death of his father.—Staff Reporter
