THATTA, Nov 10: Former Sindh home minister Dr Zulfikar Mirza sprang yet another surprise on Thursday when he called on Syed Aijaz Ali Shah Shirazi, adviser to the Sindh chief minister, and his brother and former district nazim of Thatta, Syed Shafqat Hussain Shah Shirazi.

Dr Mirza was accompanied by his wife Fehmida Mirza, the National Assembly Speaker, some friends from Dubai and a former cricket star and his family.

A close friend of the Shirazis told Dawn that Dr Mirza came here to “re-evaluate his political relationship” with the Shirazis, who have a strong influence on the politics of Thatta district.

Later Dr Mirza and Fehmida Mirza went to Saeedpur, the native village of Shirazi brothers, and held a meeting with Shafqat Hussain for about two hours.

Syed Ayaz Ali Shah Shirazi, an MNA, confirmed the meeting between Dr Mirza and Shirazi brothers, but added that he was not aware about the outcome because he was in Karachi.

He said Dr Mirza and his friends also went bird hunting at a lake near Saeedpur village.
