KARACHI, Nov 12: The chairman of the National Alliance (NA), Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi, has demanded of the government to convene the session of the National Assembly without any further delay to avoid political crisis.

The delay in convening the session had caused political crisis, he said while replying to the questions put forward by newsmen at an iftar-dinner hosted by NA leaders, Lutfur Rahman and Naeemur Rahman, at their residence on Tuesday in the city.

The former prime minister seconded the suggestion by MMA leader Qazi Hussain Ahmed that President Gen Pervez Musharraf should remain the country’s president and leave other offices.

Mr Jatoi said that the six points sent to the president with the consensus of the Grand National Alliance, Muttahida Majlis-i- Amal and People’s Party Parliamentarians had demanded convening of the National Assembly session.

He felt that the situation in the country at present could not be compared with that of 1971 and called for adopting a positive approach to face the prevailing situation.

Replying to a query, Mr Jatoi said that the politicians were not responsible for the “present deadlock”.

The NA chairman said that the component parties of GNA would work out the modalities for the formation of government in Sindh.

The president of the National Alliance and Sindh Democratic Alliance, Imtiaz Shaikh, also demanded the convening of the National Assembly session.

He contended that the PPP did not have the majority in Sindh Assembly and said that the NA and the SDA along with other like minded parties would form the provincial government.—PPI
