KARACHI, Oct 5: A middle-aged man was killed shortly after he bought a birthday cake for his son in F.B. Area on Wednesday night, police said. The police added that the seven-year-old boy survived the attack.

Four armed men riding two motorcycles intercepted Syed Abbas Husain Jafri, 45, son of Mohibul Hasan Jafri, near Noor Hospital and opened fire on him before fleeing, said DSP Nasir Bukhari.

The victim along with his son was returning home after purchasing the cake and groceries from a market in Block 19 when they came under attack, the police said.

The DSP said the victim suffered three gunshot wounds and described the incident as a targeted killing.

The victim, a resident of Block 16-A Buffer Zone, was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival, DSP Bukhari said.

He added that police investigators collected nine spent bullet casings of a TT pistol from the crime-scene.

The police said that Mr Jafri was a naib qasid in income tax department.
