LARKANA, Nov 11: The district Nazim has called for fresh allotment of state-owned land to eligible Khatedars after the arrival of the new executive district officer (revenue).

Some 1,171 acres of land were distributed by the district revenue officer to landless peasants and agricultural graduates through open Kutchehries.

These Kutchehries were held in Mirokhan, Ratodero, Kambar, Shahdadkot, Warah, Dokri and Larkana talukas between July 16 and Sept 30.

According to the official correspondence, the district Nazim, in a letter sent to the district officer (revenue) on Sept 28, had sought details about the disposal of land and the DO (revenue) had provided relevant information.

In another letter, sent to the district coordination officer, the district Nazim had pointed out that the district government was unaware about what he described as the gigantic allotment.

He had stated that the concurrence of the EDO (finance and planning), Larkana, was not obtained, adding that public representatives from Taluka or union councils were also not invited to attend any of the Kutchehry.

Criticising the lack of publicity in this regard, the Nazim further stated that he failed to comprehend the motives behind the massive disposal of land by the district officer (revenue) during the hectic days prior to the Oct 10 election.

Interestingly, the district officer (revenue) had asked the concerned Mukhtiarkars to make good use of the village staff, newspapers and other means to publicise land allotment, sources said.

A knowledgeable source in the district Nazim’s office said that the Nazim was dissatisfied over the allotments and was seeking to revoke all allotments orders made by the district officer (revenue).

He said that the Nazim wanted the revenue officer to discontinue issuing allotment orders as the matter was still pending with the DCO’s office.

In the meantime, it has also been learnt that the district officer (revenue) has been transferred.
