VILNIUS (Lithuania), Sept 10: Reigning champions Spain booked their ticket to the quarter-finals of the European Championship with a dominating victory over Serbia on Friday while hosts France and Germany both grabbed wins as well.

Pau Gasol collected 26 points and eight rebounds and brother Marc Gasol added 20 points and 10 rebounds as Spain eased past Serbia 84-59 in the second round Group ‘E’ encounter in Vilnius.

Juan Carlos Navarro chipped in 14 points and five assists in improving Spain’s record to 3-1 in the group.

The 2009 silver medallists Serbia remained alive for a spot in the final eight – and a berth at the 2012 Olympics in London – despite dropping to 1-3 in the group.

If Serbia, who saw Nenad Krstic net 12 points and seven rebounds, beat Turkey on Sunday then Ivkovic’s men will reach the quarters.—AFP
