LAHORE, Sept 7: A 45-year-old woman was found murdered near Machis Factory in Shahdara Town on Wednesday.

Police officials responded to an emergency call and shifted her body to the morgue for an autopsy. They said it appeared the woman, who was identified as Safia Begum of Bhaiki Road in Sheikhupura, had been tortured and then strangled. She came to her brothers in Lahore on Monday last.

Police said the motive behind the killing was not immediately known and inquiries were under way.

ACCIDENT: A 70-year-old man was killed after an unidentified vehicle hit him on Double-Sarkan in Gulshan-i-Ravi on Wednesday.

Police said the victim, yet to be identified, was walking along the road at the time of the incident.

INMATE DIES: A 65-year-old prisoner of Camp Jail died of 'illness' at Services Hospital on Wednesday.

Shadman police said Zulfiqar of Ghaziabad was under trial in a narcotics case. On Wednesday, he was shifted to the hospital from jail after his condition deteriorated.
