GILGIT, Sept 5: Unidentified assailants on Monday shot dead an elderly man on the outskirts of Gilgit city, police said.

Police officials told this correspondent that the victim was identified as Atish Khan, 60, whose body was removed to DHQ hospital Gilgit for medico-legal purposes.

In a separate incident, a resident of Skardu city identified as Nisar Ali was ambushed near Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation motel. He sustained bullet injuries on arm and was taken to hospital.Police did not tell the motives behind both the incidents, however, separate cases were registered in the city police station and investigations got underway.

WATER SHORTAGE: Gilgit city is witnessing severe shortage of water for past three days as the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) has failed to address the issue.

Kashrote, Zulfiqar Abad, Noor Colony, Chita Colony and other parts of Jutial are facing water shortage.The residents said Wasa officials treated them rudely whenever they lodged complaints. They said Wasa officials often remained absent from duty.

They demanded of the government to look into the matter and direct the concerned quarters to address the issue.

The Wasa authorities were not available for comments despite several phone calls.

PUBLIC INFORMATION: The police in Gilgit have said they have been directed by higher authorities not to share any information with media, according to a senior police officer.
