ISLAMABAD: During a hearing of a suo motu case regarding the unrest in Karachi, Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry said that the Supreme Court would hear the case in the city, DawnNews reported.
Inspector General Sindh Police and Chief Secretary Sindh presented a report on Karachi’s situation when the bench took up the case on Friday.
The apex court had on Wednesday constituted a five-judge special bench and asked Attorney General Maulvi Anwarul Haq to submit to the court on Friday a comprehensive report on the issue.
During the hearing, Chief Justice Iftikhar remarked that the two officials were not required to appear before the court.
The report presented before the bench indicated that so far, 117 target killers had been arrested and 306 cases of murders had been registered.
Besides Chief Justice Iftikhar, the bench includes Justice Shakirullah Jan, Justice Nasirul Mulk, Justice Tariq Parvez and Justice Ghulam Rabbani.
