KOHAT, Aug 7: A former town nazim, arrested last week for attacking police in Lachi area of the district, was released along with friends on bail after elders of the area held a jirga with the SHO concerned.

The local elders and SHO of Lachi town Khanullah held a jirga to sort out the issue.

The former town nazim, Fawad Khan, was released along with his arrested friends after the jirga.

The former nazim and his colleagues had tried to forcibly free their friend, arrested by police during routine checking on August 3, 2011.

They were also blamed for firing in the air and injuring policemen.

Meanwhile, the government has approved Rs15 million as initial grant for provision of natural gas to Mandori union council of Lachi town.

A 25-member jirga of elders form Lachi met with the provincial president of Awami National Party, Senator Afrasiab Khattak, in Peshawar and requested him to order early completion of ongoing project of gas supply to the urban area besides approving gas supply scheme for Mandori.

ANP secretary information Arbab Tahir, provincial secretary general Tajud Din, Masood Ahmed Shah and president of Malgari Ustazan of district Kohat Tahir Lachwi were also present on the occasion. The jirga was led by MPA Dr Iqbal Din Fana.
