KARAK, Aug 1: Three persons were killed and three others wounded in separate incidents in Karak on Monday.

Police said a car collided with a container truck coming from opposite direction on the Indus Highway in the jurisdiction of Banda Daud Shah police station. Haneef Zaman, a government contractor of Tarkha Koi, who was going to Kohat from Karak in his car, was killed on the spot. His son Momin Khan was also injured.

Three other containers also collided with each other after the incident. Two drivers of the containers identified as Ghulam Mohammad of Gulshan Abad and Ghulam Rasool of Jamrud also sustained injuries.

The injured were taken to district headquarters hospital where their condition was stated to be serious.

Soon after the accident a long queue of vehicles was witnessed as the Indus Highway remained blocked for hours and the passengers faced hardships in the sizzling heat.

In the second incident two relatives hailing from Shakardara Kohat drowned in the Zebi Dam while bathing. Local divers fished out the bodies after hectic efforts. The victims were identified as Afzal and Rehan.

A teenager, Tauqeer Nasir, who was missing for three days, was found in a deserted area of Sangeni in unconscious condition on Monday. PROTEST:

Residents of Banda Daud Shah blocked the Kohat-Bannu road on Monday to protest against non-provision of gas.

The protesters were led by former councillor Saadullah. Police and the protesters scuffled when the former tried to open the road by force.

Later, the DSP Banda Daud Shah Akhtarul Aiman Khattak and District Coordination Officer Javed Ahmad Khan assured the protesters that their demand would be met, after which the protesters dispersed.

SNATCHED: Rs1.1 million were snatched by unknown bandits from the postmaster of the Ghundi Mir Khankhel post office on gunpoint.

Police said the postmaster Sadiqur Rehman of Karak city was taking Rs1.1 million of the pensioners from National Bank Karak on his motorcycle when some unknown bandits intercepted him at Chongi No 2 area and snatched the amount from him.

The postmaster suffered heart attack after the incident and was admitted in the DHQ hospital.
