LAHORE, July 27: The Lahore High Court took serious notice on Wednesday regarding registration of an FIR against a man, who claims to be an uneducated, for issuing a bogus cheque and recommended the Punjab inspector general of police take action against the investigating officer of the case.

Justice Muhammad Khalid Mehmood Khan issued this order on a bail petition of Zafar Iqbal in the case of cheque dishonouring registered with the Naulakha police station. The petitioner through his counsel pleaded that he was an uneducated person and maintained a photo bank account as he could not do his signature.

He said one of his friends, Muhammad Asif, stole his cheque book and got registered an FIR under section 489-F of the Pakistan Penal Code for issuing a bogus cheque to him.

Justice Khan asked investigating officer Ijaz Ahmad whether he had verified signatures of the petitioner from the bank. The police officer failed to satisfy the court.

The judge adjourned hearing on the bail petition and recommended the IG to take disciplinary action against the officer under the Police Order 2002 for showing grave negligence and incompetence.
