
KARACHI: Trials to pick Karachi region teams for various national cricket tournaments will be held from next week at the National Stadium, the Karachi City Cricket Association (KCCA) announced here on Wednesday.
The three-day trials would be conducted under the supervision of chairman of the national selection committee Mohsin Khan with the Pakistan Cricket Board also appointing Saleem Jaffer, Azam Khan, Tahir Mahmood and Asim Rizvi as the panel members.
Zafar Ahmed, meanwhile, would act as the regional representative of Karachi during the entire process of selection.
According to details chalked out, trials to pick two city squads for the national inter-regional under-19 tournament would be held on July 20 from 9:00am onwards. The KCCA, in this connection, has advised each of its seven zones to send 10 best performing players of the recent inter-district under-19 event.
For the selection of two teams for the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship – the country’s premier first-class competition – trials will be conducted on July 21, also from 9:00am onwards. The best 10 performers of the inter-district senior tournament from each zone are eligible to appear at the trials.
And then on July 22, trials will be held to select two Karachi Twenty20 outfits with best performing cricketers of all city-based departmental teams. In addition a Karachi under-23 squad will also be picked from 35 probables with each zone nominating five of its best players.
