KARACHI, July 12: A quartet of promising players was through to the men’s singles main draw after winning final qualifiers in the Sindh Open ranking tennis championship at Modern Club on Tuesday.

The four, who earned a berth in the main round of 16, are Abdul Rehman, Nameer Shamsi, Adil Kohari and Mustafa Zaidi.

Eighth seeded players and four wildcards, who were exempted from qualifiers, complete the main round draw of men’s singles. Two wildcards were given to Hyderabad, one to Mirpurkhas and one to former Davis Cupper Tahir Iftikhar, who is here on holidays from Kuwait where he is on a coaching assignment.

Results: Men’s singles: Qualifying round one: Noman Farid (Hyderabad) bt Salman Ahmed 5-7, 6-2; 6-3; Abdul Shakoor bt Ali Imam 6-2, 6-3.

Qualifying round two: Abdul Rehman bt Sufyan Shiwani 6-2, 6-1; Noman Farid (Hyderabad) bt Babar Saif (walkover); Adil Kohari bt Saad Mallick 6-0, 6-0; Hamza Pataudi bt Habib-ur-Rehman (walkover); Abdullah Khan bt Yahya Gabol 6-3, 6-3; Mustafa Zaidi bt Abdul Shakoor 6-3, 7-6; Asfand Rouf bt Aun Ahmed 6-0, 6-0; Nameer Shamsi bt Omer Usman 7-6 (retired).
