Salaries delayed

ATTOCK, July 11: Teachers and other staff of the education department in Pindigheb tehsil have not been paid their July salaries after the deputy district officer (DDO) was transferred last month.

Some of the teachers told reporters that DDO Education Sheikh Javed was transferred on June 1. They said the assistant education officer was given the additional charge of DDO.

But they added that powers of “salary disbursement” were not delegated. They said as the new DDO has not been appointed in the education department, teachers and other staff have not been paid salaries for July.

Executive District Officer Education, Attock district, Abdul Khaliq Bhatti said the Punjab government would soon appoint DDO in the tehsil. However he added if the appointment is delayed, the department would consider delegating salary disbursement powers to any other officer. — Correspondent

CHAKWAL, July 11: A sub-inspector was booked by Anti-Corruption Department (ACD) on the charges of registering a wrong FIR and taking bribe from the complainants, sources told Dawn on Monday. The ACD has started investigation. — Correspondent

Outrage at power outages

TAXILA, July 11: Public outrage at power outages continued in Wah Cantonment as residents of various localities along GT road staged a protest demonstration and blocked traffic on Rawalpindi-Peshawar GT road for around two hours on Sunday evening.

The angry and charged protesters from various localities of Wah Cantonment including Chahci Mohallah, New City, Losar Sharfoo, Ismailabad and adjourning areas gathered at GT road around 8pm and burnt tyres and chanted slogans against the Islamabad Electric Supply Company officials. —  Correspondent

Brick kilns resume work

TAXILA, July 11: Construction work in Taxila and Wah Cantonment resumed on Monday as brick kiln owners called off their weeklong strike after successful negotiations with provincial authorities.

The Brick Kilns Association observed complete strike from July 2 in protest against 16 per cent General Sales Tax (GST) on the bricks resultantly construction work at public and private sector halted and thousands of brick kiln and construction labors were rendered jobless. — Correspondent

Murder case

ATTOCK, July 11: Hazro Police have registered a murder case against a proclaimed offender (PO) on the charges of killing Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) activist.

Police said that FIR was registered on the report of the deceased’s son Lahraib Dar against the Gullzada. —Correspondent

Swindlers held

ISLAMABAD, July 11: The Shahzad Town police arrested two women swindlers who tried to cheat the residents of a house, a police spokesman said.

The two women entered a house at Margalla Town on some pretext and asked the residents to bring their gold ornaments claiming they had the ability to double the gold ornaments with the help of Quranic verses One of the residents called her husband Khan Inamul Majeed who informed the Shahzad Town police who arrested the two women. — Staff Reporter
